The Cityview (formerly YMCA International House) ReviewAlthough still affiliated with the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, this hotel has rebranded itself as a city hotel after renovating its rooms and transforming itself into a smart-looking establishment that can rival many of the more expensively priced hotels in terms of facilities. It's located just off Nathan Road, only a minute's walk from the Yau Ma Tei MTR station, but because it's halfway up Kowloon Peninsula far from the action of Tsim Sha Tsui, it has always played second fiddle to the Salisbury YMCA in terms of convenience and views. Otherwise, contemporary-styled rooms are similar to hotel rooms anywhere in the city, with the cheapest rooms equipped with showers instead of tubs. Ask for a room on a top floor, where it's brighter, the decor more upbeat, and you can look out over the city. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
