Frommer's Review
Bboss, a dazzling, 70,000-square-foot hostess club that can seat 3,000 people, was the largest Japanese-style nightclub in the world when it opened in 1984. Even larger ones have since opened in China, but this place is still so big that a full-size electric replica of an antique Rolls-Royce delivers customers along a "highway" to their seats.
There are three nightly stage shows, at 9:20, 10:15, and 11:10pm, complete with a rotating stage so that everyone gets a chance to ogle the scantily clad performers. There's also a 20-member band, a smaller combo band, and a dance floor. Couples are welcome, though single women are not allowed, as they would compete with the scores of hostesses who flatter and chat with male customers. Big spenders can even take hostesses away from the club for the evening (escort services are big business in Hong Kong, as a perusal of any local newspaper will show). In any case, how much you end up spending will be determined by how many drinks you consume, how long you entertain a hostess at your table (it costs HK$1,000/US$130/£71 for 2 hr. during the early evening hours and HK$1,200/US$156/£86 for 2 hr. at night, not including her drinks), and the time of day or night you visit. If you're not careful, you could spend a fortune here.
On the other hand, the place is so overdecorated in bows and the color pink, 1 hour may be all you can stand; in that case, come for one of the 30-minute shows, which costs HK$200 (US$26/£14) per person, including a soft drink. However, since these shows all happen after 9pm, you'll still need to spend the HK$520 (US$68/£37) minimum drink charge on top of the show charge. If you come before 9pm, the minimum drink charge is HK$460 (US$60/£33). You'll find Bboss in Tsim Sha Tsui East in the New Mandarin Plaza, 14 Science Museum Rd. (tel. 852/2369 2883).
