Beaches

Hvar Town has a public beach west of the center. It is a pebble beach and, like most of the patches of Croatian land that have either been turned into paved strips or covered with pebbles and proclaimed a beach, this one is usually crowded with sunbathers from the nearby package Hotel Amfora. However, for a mere 10kn, you can hop a taxi boat to nearby Pakleni Otoci, a cluster of pine-forested, uninhabited islands whose coastlines are alternately rimmed with rocks and little pebble beaches. The Bonj Les Bains beach club at the Hotel Amfora is a swanky addition to the Hvar beach scene. All beaches in Croatia are open to the public by law, but you have to pay to use the Amfora's cabanas and sun beds, which are on the free beach. You don't have to stay at the Amfora to use Bonj Les Bains, but you do have to pay a hefty daily fee to use the equipment on its beach -- from 48€ per day for two sun beds, two towels, an umbrella, and a table to 111€ per day for the same equipment plus a stone cabana.
