Frommer's Review
Since 2004, this has become the "grand hotel" of Iraklion. After gutting an old and abandoned commercial/apartment building located on the site of a bastion of the old Venetian walls and high above the harbor, the new owners have installed a hotel that is elegant in its decor, facilities, and service. All rooms have an exterior view, leaving the core of the structure as a great atrium. All the public areas bespeak understated luxury and the guest rooms are more generous than in many Greek hotels as well as far more stylish. The various amenities and the service are of the highest standard. Special elements include a small library/reading area, plasma TV, free wireless in public areas, private dining options, rooms for those with disabilities -- even dogs will be welcomed. The second floor is set aside for nonsmoking rooms -- but smoking seems to be allowed in some of the public areas. There are conference rooms for up to 100 persons. Convenient for walking to anyplace in the core of the city, the Meagron has undeniably seized the high ground of Iraklion's hotels in every sense of that phrase.
