Hotel Korana-Srakovcic

First-time Korana guests who follow the city's directional signs to this family-run hotel are inevitably taken aback when they approach a war-ravaged structure with broken windows and a burned HOTEL KORANA sign on the roof. Don't gasp and turn around. Instead, keep going about 91m (300 ft.) to the real Hotel Korana, a faithful re-creation of a historic 1896 building that was destroyed in the war with Serbia and lovingly rebuilt in 11 months according to the structure's original blueprints. The new Hotel Korana, which opened its doors in 2003, is a true boutique hotel in a park setting. Its personalized guest services sometimes find the staff organizing special events ranging from corporate luncheons to hunts for wild mushrooms. The hotel can even set up a tour of the city's Karlovacko Brewery or rafting on one of the nearby rivers. Guest rooms are spacious and airy, and each is themed to a different flower species, so if you forget your room number, you'll remember that you are in the Petunia Room. The hotel's Restaurant Dobra features nouvelle regional dishes that can be served on the wraparound deck, a perfect perch for watching the nightly promenade along the Korana river walk.
