Hogfish Bar & Grill

A ramshackle, rough-and-tumble seafood bar and grill on Safe Harbor in "downtown" Stock Island (there's no town, just fisheries, boats, and artists and craftsmen working out of shacks and trailers), Hogfish is a popular spot for its namesake sandwich. Similar to grouper, hogfish is a delicious, rare fish with a scallop-like flavor and the sandwich they make out of it here, served on Cuban bread, is so popular it's usually sold out if you don't get there by noon. Other fish sandwiches are available, but it's the "world famous killer hogfish sandwich" that you want to come here for. So get here early. Key West pink shrimp are aplenty here, so peel and eat is another popular pastime while you're waiting for your hogfish. Live music and a lively, salty, bar scene created by locals and tourists alike make Hogfish a quintessential Key West experience. Kids especially like feeding the fish in the harbor.
