The Rex

Right in the center of town and within waking distance of the Waterfront, this new hotel offers convenient, stylish accommodations, but without the natural beauty enjoyed by lodgings on the Eastern Head or the Phantom Pass. The feel is more exclusive apartment block than hotel. There's a lot of concrete, steel, and glass on the outside; the interior is all hushed contemporary tones, with the odd charming quirk (like a wall of carved, caged birds). The rooms are modern, escaping bland, thanks to such touches as handmade blankets and original photographs. Book a one-bed room; the standard rooms are just too small. If you don't want to cook, Dish, just downstairs, offers bistro-style dining with South African twists. Next door is Mon Petit Pain, baby sister to the famous Ile de Pain.
