As a sign of the renaissance of the city of Leeds, this gorgeous 1891 neo-Renaissance pile of red brick has been glamorously restored and converted into a hotel. The Victorian shell has been preserved; otherwise, the hotel is imbued with state-of-the-art amenities. The broad winding oak staircase and the ornate stained-glass windows are still there, along with handcrafted oak panels. A few minutes' walk from City Square and the main train station, the central hotel offers bedrooms that are beautifully and traditionally decorated, in chic colors such as camel brown and Wedgwood blue. The best accommodations are two mezzanine suites with spiral staircases leading to the sleeping quarters.
