Active Pursuits

A sports-oriented and health-conscious town, Leksand provides ample opportunity for outdoor sports. The town's tourist office can provide information on local swimming, cross-country skiing, curling, ice-skating, tennis, and boat rides on Lake Siljan, all of which are available in or near the town center, depending on the season and weather conditions. There are downhill skiing facilities at Granberget, about 21km (13 miles) to the southwest. Granberget is neither the biggest nor the best ski facility in Sweden, but on the premises are five mechanized lifts and one restaurant (no hotels at all). A 1-day ski pass costs 280SEK ($56/£28). For information, call or write Ski Leksand Granberget, S-79327 Leksand (tel. 0247/223-30; fax 0247/223-06; www.siljan.se).
