This is a decent budget option for those who want to be in the thick of Lima Centro's colonial quarter, within close range of churches and mansions, and about a 10-minute walk from the Plaza de Armas. La Casona is pleasant and friendly, built around an airy central courtyard. Rooms are basic, with high ceilings; a few are rather dismal and can be uncomfortably humid, so ask to see several. Many rooms come equipped with curious 1950s and 1960s furniture and grandma-style big box TVs. In an attempt to compete with the more popular España and Europa hotels, it has converted a few rooms into "Backpacker's," dorm-style accommodations containing bathrooms.
