Piccolo Hotel Puccini

This tiny hotel boasts Lucca's best location: just off the central piazza of San Michele. Your neighbor is the ghost of Puccini, who grew up across the street. The prices are fantastic for the location and comfort. And Paolo and his staff are the friendliest hoteliers in town. Most of the rooms are smallish, but they have been renovated with firm beds, compact bathrooms, floral-print wallpaper, carpeting, and reproduction opera playbills framed on the walls. From the 12 rooms along the front (this street sees very little traffic), you can lean out and see a sliver of the fabulous San Michele facade half a block away. The Puccini fills quickly, so be sure to book ahead.
