In Depth

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg -- covering an area of just 2,600 sq. km (1,000 sq. miles), is tiny. Smaller than Rhode Island, the smallest state in the United States, the country's borders seem unlikely to embrace so many worthy travel delights. Yet within this country are the remnants of a rich history and a landscape with scenery that varies from wild highlands to peaceful river valleys to plains dotted with picturesque villages and farmlands. Outside of the capital, Luxembourg City, the classic Luxembourg settlement is a village or small town of whitewashed houses clustered around a medieval castle and church.
