Macau Museum of Art

Located in the Macao Cultural Centre on reclaimed land near the Outer Harbour, this small but interesting museum displays historical paintings, Chinese calligraphy, pottery, and works by contemporary local artists. Particularly fascinating are paintings by Western artists such as British painter George Chinnery and others, who painted scenes, people, and customs of Macau and Guangdong, including depictions of the port town as it looked long ago. Their works were often copied and then sold to visiting foreigners as souvenirs. Also impressive is the collection of Shiwan ceramic figurines. There are also temporary exhibitions. Depending upon your interest, you'll spend anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes here. Incidentally, on the ground floor is the Media Library, with computers you can use for free from 2 to 7pm Tuesday to Friday and 11am to 7pm Saturday and Sunday.
