Frommer's Review
Located just south of Atocha in the barrio of Delicias, this ironwork trainspotter's delight was built in 1880 by Gustave Eiffel. Once trains ran from here as far as Portugal, but all services stopped in 1968. Today, in a locomotive timewarp, it's the only station in Madrid that still looks like it belongs to the 19th century. Climb aboard the trains (check out the 1950s Talgo that looks like the one Spencer Tracy took in the movie Bad Day at Black Rock), watch early locomotive movie footage, attend short "theater shows," and see the "clock room" whose array of timers includes the one that clocked the very first train trip in Spain, a trip from Barcelona to Mataró. A buy-and-sell model-train market is sometimes on-site.
