NH Nacional ReviewOriginally built in 1900, in a prominent Belle Epoque style, the Nacional has retained its imposing period facade while now savoring a totally remodeled interior taking full advantage of the building's tall ceilings and large spaces. An impressive marble entrance hall is complete with Gothic columns and an overhead glass copula. The good-size bedrooms have eschewed their former rather dowdy decor in favor of a seamless designer style that includes avant-garde art; the en suite bathrooms all contain immaculate tub/shower combos. Atocha train station -- the original reason for the hotel's existence -- is virtually on your doorstep and exterior rooms have great views of the leafy and tranquil Botanical Gardens. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
