Hostal Astoria ReviewSituated on the fifth floor of a 19th-century building, this unpretentious and highly affordable hostal is famed for its welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Situated between the El Prado and Thyssen museums and the countless bars and eating spots of lively Huertas, the Astoria is an excellent base for enjoying a wide choice of central attractions. The modestly comfortable rooms are bright and simply furnished, and complete with air-conditioning and adjoining bathrooms. Rooms facing the busy Carrera San Jerónimo tend to get noisy, so ask for one at the back if you want to enjoy some peace and quiet. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
