This upmarket 1870s hostal was first built as a town house on the edge of the Old City before being totally refurbished at the beginning of the millennium to cater to jet-age clientele. Situated in an attractive square between Plaza Santa Ana and Plaza Mayor, the hostal is just a short stroll from central shops, bars, and restaurants. Cultural highlights, such as the Prado Museum, are a 10-minute walk away. The bargain-priced accommodations range from standard, compact, brightly but simply furnished doubles to larger family-size rooms accommodating up to four. The spare downstairs cafeteria is noted for its generous breakfast portions.
