Meknes's medina is yet to attract any great immigration of Moroccan or European hoteliers renovating its riads and dars into chic guesthouses, or maisons d'hôte. This only adds to the attraction of staying in the few that are located within its walls, as you will be immediately ensconced into authentic, residential medina life and be very much a curiosity in the neighborhood.
The most recently built or renovated accommodations within the city have been in the ville nouvelle, where there is a good selection of reasonably priced hotels that are all within walking distance or a very short taxi ride from the train station.
Meknes lacks any great number of accommodations, and the better hotels can be full by early afternoon, so arriving in the morning or prebooking your accommodation is a wise move.
