The town's most crowded nightlife venue is La Bonne Mousse, 2 rue Voltaire (tel. 05-63-63-55-26). Here, within a bleak-looking industrial zone 3km (1.8 miles) north of Montauban's historic core, is a sprawling, beer-soaked pub with ambience musicale. Drinks flow readily at a rambling bar area, and from an elevated stage, local bands, on a rotating basis, do their best to liven things up. Its opening days and hours of this sometimes highly erratic concert hall vary with the season, but in most cases are Thursday through Saturday from 9pm till 1am; it's best to call before you go.
One of the busiest and most widely visited nightclubs in Montauban is Le Caïpirhina, a warm and rustic-looking vaulted cellar beneath a Mexican restaurant, Le Santa Maria, 2 sq. Bourjade (tel. 05-63-91-99-09), close to Musée Ingres. Open Thursday through Saturday, it gets busy beginning around 10pm. Entrance is usually free unless a live band is entertaining that night or if a special theme night is in effect.
