Frommer's Review
High on a hill above the main road, the original restaurant at El Sapo Dorado continues to offer up great sunsets and food. The menu features such varied options as poached corvina in heart-of-palm sauce, shrimp in a sambuca mushroom sauce, or filet mignon in pepper-cream sauce. The emphasis is on fresh ingredients and healthful preparation, and there are always nightly specials and vegetarian and vegan options as well. If you come in time for a sunset dinner, definitely grab a table in the large, covered dining room, which has full walls of picture windows for taking in the views, or, weather permitting, on their outdoor terrace.
These folks have also opened another restaurant, La Guarida del Sapo, near the main road, in a large building that feels a bit like a church, with high ceilings, a tall central steeple, and plenty of stained glass and ironwork. The menu here is smaller and simpler, with an emphasis on healthy bar food, if such a thing is not too oxymoronic.
