This rustic Italian eatery ranks near the top of many people's "my favorite" lists for Nantucket. Quirky and homespun, its style runs to mismatched glasses and fresh flowers in mason jars. The menu combinations are unusual in a familiar way -- how about an antipasto of clams, salami, tomato, and fennel? There is a corn risotto with lobster and zucchini, and a roasted sausage accompanied by a plateful of contorni (tasty preparations of farm-fresh vegetables). Light eaters can ask for a half-order of pasta, which is enough to satisfy the average appetite. The kitchen turns out home-baked bread that some call the island's best, as well as desserts such as fruit tart. They also make their own gelato. The only catch is that the restaurant is not in the center of town; you have to take a taxi.
