Frommer's Review
This is everybody's favorite mom-and-pop eatery, a real local hangout. It's set beside the road leading south out of Negril, within a clapboard-sided house that seems to grow bigger each year, and which is painted an electric shade of blue. Food is simple, cheap, and bountiful, served amid a decor of plastic tablecloths, tile floors, and windows covered with louvers and screens (but without glass). The Whytes welcome guests warmly and serve portions that are large, satisfying, and home-style. Bring Grandma, Mom, Dad, the kids -- many Jamaican families do. You get what's on the stove or in the kettle that night, perhaps the fresh catch of the day or a conch steak. The grilled chicken is done to perfection, and shrimp is steamed and served with garlic butter or cooked in coconut cream. A number of curry dishes tempt, including concoctions made with goat, lobster, and chicken. Meals come with freshly cooked, Jamaica-grown vegetables. The fruit juices served here in lieu of alcoholic beverages are truly refreshing, and the menu is the same at lunch and dinner.
