This is one of the best -- and best-designed -- resorts in the West End, utterly devoid of the funky-hippie motif that characterizes most of its competitors. Set in an isolated neighborhood 366m (1,200 ft.) from the sea and cliffs, it's a relatively large complex plunked down in the middle of a counterculture neighborhood that until quite recently shunned resorts.

The architecture might remind you of an upscale hacienda in Argentina, with sprawling wings, terra cotta, tile work, mahogany furniture, and such decorative touches as a stone column in the lobby where water drips from a fountain. More than any of its competitors, this place gives the feeling of a coherently planned resort. There's a shuttle bus to Seven Mile Beach, which beats the 2-hour walk, and an on-site restaurant serves simple fare. Many clients here come on European group tours.
