Frommer's Review
On 5 hectares (13 acres) of prime beachfront land a short drive east of the center of Negril, Sandals Negril is an all-inclusive, couples-only resort that attracts a basically young, convivial, and unsophisticated audience. Imbued with a beachy, fretwork-trimmed design that evokes a Victorian-Colonial theme, it's a bit more active and freewheeling than the more formal and somewhat more restrained Sandals properties in Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. The casual but comfortably furnished rooms have a tropical motif and mahogany, plantation-inspired furniture, including four-poster beds. Completely renovated early in the millennium, rooms are generally spacious, each with a marble bathroom with a shower/tub combination. Most units open directly onto the beach -- in fact, of the 223 units, only 27 don't offer views of the sea. In fact, here, more than at many other Sandals, you'll be so close to the sea that you'll hear the sound of the waves throughout the night. Unfortunately, so close to the sea, hurricanes, when they come, tend to do a lot of damage, so if, during the lifetime of this edition, you hear of tropical storms hitting Jamaica, ask about the condition of this hotel before you book.
