This much-photographed, frequently copied historians' delight is said to be the oldest all-wood house in the Antilles, and was built amid the high-altitude plantations of Gingerland in 1740. Some say it once hosted Alexander Hamilton and Horatio Nelson. Today, former Philadelphian Richard Lupinacci and his wife, Maureen, have assembled one of the best collections of antiques on Nevis here. Wide-plank floors, intricate latticework, and high ceilings add to the hotel's beauty. The accommodations are in 12 glamorous buildings designed like small plantation houses. Many contain huge four-poster beds, antique accessories, and colonial louvered windows. The spotlessly maintained private bathrooms contain tub/shower combos. The most luxurious and expensive unit is a yellow manor house on .2 hectares (1/2 acre) of private gardens with its own ceramic-tile pool, three large bedrooms furnished with antique canopy beds, oversize bathrooms with dressing rooms, a comfortable living room, dining room, and a full kitchen.

Complimentary beach transportation is provided because the best nearby beach is a 15-minute drive away. The on-site restaurant is one of the finest hotel dining rooms on island.
