Appalachian Mountain Club huts : For more than a century, the AMC has been putting up weary hikers at its huts high in the White Mountains. Today, the club still manages eight of them (each about a day's hike apart), providing filling, family-style meals and sturdy bunks stacked three high in rustic bunkrooms.
