Frommer's Review
The Excelsior's ornate corbels and stone pediments rise grandly a few steps from the railway station. This much-renovated 19th-century hotel has modern decor, most of it from the mid-1990s, and rooms outfitted in tones of Provençal ocher, blue, and brown that have seen a lot of wear but are still comfortable. They have small, shower-only bathrooms. Furnishings, for the most part, are functional and conservative. A garden and the beach are a 20-minute walk through the residential and commercial heart of Nice.
