Hôtel Méridien Review

One of Nice's largest hotels, this one rises five floors above the junction of the promenade des Anglais and a small formal park, the Jardin Albert-1er. Built in the 1960s by Air France in an angular design with lots of shiny metal and glass, it was later acquired by Britain's Forte group and hosts many organized tours from Britain and northern Europe. Two escalators carry you up through a soaring, impersonal atrium to the reception area. The recently renovated guest rooms are modern and standard. The seafront rooms, though desirable for the view over the hotel's private beach, are actually the smallest in the hotel; space has been sacrificed to make way for terraces or balconies. The zesty restaurant, Le Colonia Café, celebrates the late-19th-century overseas conquests of France and England -- the emphasis is on spicy, sometimes curried international cuisine.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; concierge; health club & spa; pool (outdoor); room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
