At the top of a granite staircase whose corkscrew shape is an architectural marvel, this is one of the most popular restaurants in town. Filled with 19th-century charm, it contains Windsor chairs and reproduction Georgian tables. Specialties include sliced chateaubriand with mushrooms; smoked Tobermory trout; haggis with cream and whisky; venison casserole; filet of beef served with a creamed onion, tomato, and mushroom sauce; and roast pheasant. Less expensive platters are served in the adjacent bar.

The hotel stands on the eastern extension of the town's main commercial street (George St.), a 4-minute walk from the center. It rents 12 well-furnished rooms, with TVs, costing £60 to £75 ($114-$143) double, Scottish breakfast included.
