This is your best bet for an overnight in Oban. Located on the outskirts of town, and opening onto panoramic views of Oban Bay, this stone house, built in 1780, was once owned by the duke of Argyll. Many antiques grace the public rooms. The good-size guest rooms are filled with tasteful reproductions, and coordinated curtains and bedcovers create a pleasing effect, often in sun-splashed golds and yellows. All have midsize private bathrooms, some with both tub and shower. Children under 12 are not welcome as guests.

The hotel is famous for its restaurant; during the summer, rooms are held for patrons who have dinner reservations. Bookings without dinner reservations are taken only when there are openings.
