Frommer's Review
This two-story stone and clapboard-sided pavilion originated late in the 19th century as the centerpiece of a once-thriving pimento plantation. Laboriously restored, and loaded with nostalgia and charm, it's the focal point of an art gallery (upstairs) and restaurant (Toscanini's, on street level) that showcases one of the region's best assortment of contemporary Jamaican paintings and to a lesser degree, sculptures. Among them are works by some of the leading names in the Jamaican art world, including George Rodney, Graham Davis, Susan Shirley, PJ Stewart, and Jonna Brasch. Original paintings within this gallery range in price from $100 to $5,000.
There's also, added as something of an afterthought, a tasteful array of arts, crafts, and gift items. Among them are body oils and lotions, soaps, and candles, many of which contain natural additives harvested in Jamaica.
