Couples Ocho Rios

This is a couples-only resort. Most guests are married, and many are on their honeymoons. Everything is in pairs, even the chairs at night by the moon-drenched beach. Some guests slip away from the resort, which is an 18-minute drive (8km/5 miles) east of town, to Couples's private island to bask in the buff. A shuttle boat transports visitors offshore to this beautiful little island with a fine sandy beach, a bar, and a pool. Security guards keep the gawkers from bothering guests here.

In general, this is a classier operation than the more mass-market Sandals locations. The bedrooms have a king-size bed or two doubles, pleasantly traditional furnishings, and a patio fronting either the sea or the mountains. For a chain that's all-inclusive, the cuisine is above average.
