At one time a bawdy collection of saloons, rooming houses, brothels, and opium dens, Ogden's 25th Street has become the "in" place to shop and eat. Within its historic buildings are several antiques shops, specialty stores, restaurants, and bars. At the mouth of Ogden Canyon is Rainbow Gardens, 1851 Valley Dr. (tel. 801/621-1606; www.rainbowgardens.com); dubbing itself as Utah's largest gift shop, it has everything from flowers and Olympic souvenirs to a restaurant and a trail head out back.
Those searching for specialty shops or their favorite stores will enjoy Newgate Mall, 36th Street and Wall Avenue (tel. 801/621-1161; www.newgatemall.com), with its boutiques, department stores, abundant eateries, and 14-screen movie theater. The mall is open Monday through Thursday from 10am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 10pm, and Sunday from 11am to 7pm.
