Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort Review
After a $65-million renovation in 2009, the redesigned lobby, while still centered on an 18-story atrium, now sports a trendy updated decor with unique and inviting seating areas (perfect for small social or business gatherings) and an all-new Sushi Bar, where Chef Yoshi, a local celebrity of sorts, amazes onlookers and diners alike. The rooms (some renovated, others completely reconstructed) now feature a chic yet subtle decor with modernized amenities. A favorite of honeymooners and those seeking a luxurious adult oasis, there's plenty here for families as well. The west-side rooms on floors seven and up have a distant view of Cinderella Castle and the Magic Kingdom's fireworks. (This vantage point also shows how much of WDW and the surrounding area still remain wooded.) The Hyatt shares a golf club and academy, racquet club, and equestrian center (though at press time, the equestrian center had been closed indefinitely) with its sister property, Villas of Grand Cypress ; both offer excellent packages aimed at the sports set. The Hyatt's half-acre, 800,000-gallon pool is one of the best in Orlando and features caves, grottoes, waterfalls, a rope bridge, and a 45-foot water slide. A very nice child-care facility is also available. Hemingway's, the resort's signature restaurant, has a Key West theme and a menu featuring fresh and innovative seafood. At the Chef's Table, guests can indulge in a unique and intimate dining experience -- perfect for a special night out. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
