Frommer's Review

In 1998, the former owner of Tipica Trattoria Etrusca bought this former budget favorite and overhauled it completely into board-rated three-star status. While I kind of miss the old super-cheap flophouse, located just a few steps off the left side of the Duomo's piazza, the new Hotel Duomo still offers an excellent price for the location, with far more comfort and amenities. The rooms -- some quite large, others of modest size -- now have stylish modern furnishings, beds with firm box springs, original sculpture on the walls, and marble sink tops and heated towel racks (but flat towels) in the new bathrooms. A few rooms overlook the cathedral's striped flank. There's a small garden out front for alfresco breakfasts in summer.
