Dar Mouna ReviewAbdellah Mouna's family-run guesthouse was the first in the village and is one of the best, with a terrace that looks directly over the riverbed to their old kasbah in the ksour. Constructed in tabout throughout, the main building surrounds a cozy interior courtyard with comfortable lounges and a clay-brick fireplace that is perfect on cold winter nights. The rustic inward-facing rooms are on two levels opening on to the courtyard. Low-lying beds with natural-fiber spreads and floors covered with Berber rugs, grass mats, and lamb's wool hides complement the rustic, earthen walls. Most rooms have good-size bathrooms with ceramic or copper basins atop stone pedestals and large walk-in showers, although the gap between wall and ceiling unfortunately results in a total lack of privacy between roommates. Four new "kasbah view" rooms do indeed offer uninterrupted views of the kasbah, but only with the entrance door open; the sole suite has a small, separate lounge room and a private terrace. An earth and stone restaurant adjoining the main building is furnished with wrought-iron furniture and has two fireplaces and a small lounge area. The 30-seat restaurant offers a menu du jour, for lunch and dinner, and nonguests are welcome with prior notice. However, the restaurant isn't air-conditioned, doesn't serve alcohol (though you can bring your own), and is only recommended for breakfast (reserve for B&B only, not half board or demi pension). The large terrasse panoramique stretches the length of Dar Mouna and is where you will want to spend most of your time. Woven grass umbrellas afford some shade from the sun as you while away the hours simply looking across to the famous ksour. Request your meals to be taken out here. A garden at the rear of the small, walled property has a vegetable patch to supply the restaurant, as well as a swimming pool and some woven-grass sun lounges. | 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
