Ouarzazate Shopping
Most travelers are on their way to/from the major shopping experiences in Marrakech or Fes, and as a consequence the pressure to buy when browsing the shops in Ouarzazate can be quite intense. Opposite the kasbah is the Kissariat Artisinal, where a maze of stores sell a good range of curios such as pottery, carpets, lanterns, scarves, and spices. Next door, on the corner of Mohammed V, is another string of shops; the pressure here is slightly less than that at the Kissariat. Agnaou el Houssaine's Antiquities de Sud (tel. 0524/883730) is filled with antiques and Saharan/West African objets d'art, as well as a bric-a-brac selection that is beginning to suspiciously look like junk. All of the shops here are open daily from 9am to sunset.
For everyday items, Super Marché, on avenue Mohammed V (next to the BMCE bank), is well stocked with groceries, cold meats, dairy products, toiletries, and even alcohol. It's open every day from 8am to 10pm. Supermarché Dâdes, on avenue Moulay Rachid, has a wider range of groceries and a large cold-storage section, and is open every day from 8am to 1pm and 4 to 10pm.
