Hotels

Hotels in Palermo come in all shapes, sizes, prices, and degrees of comfort, so you should not have trouble finding a room that suits both your desires and your pocketbook. You can live in first-class style or rather inexpensively; the city has more good and inexpensive accommodations than any other place in Sicily.

Because of the heat, July and August are the low season, whereas in such coastal resorts as Taormina those are the most expensive months to visit.

Budget hotels in Palermo are called pensioni, locande, or alberghi, and most of them lie at the southern frontiers of two parallel streets, Via Maqueda and Via Roma. Women traveling alone will feel safer checking into hotels on one of the main arteries and not down some narrow side street in the medieval quarters.
