Il Giardino di Ballarò

The stables of the Palazzo Conte Federico were converted to a bakery more than a century ago, and now they’ve been revamped in the style of a casually luxurious country house, steps from the Ballarò market. In the downstairs lounges, plump couches surround a fireplace against a backdrop of old brick, arches, and columns, while a breakfast lounge and several guest rooms face a rear garden filled with banana trees and other exotic plantings. Two rooms are tucked under the eaves beneath huge skylights, and large family rooms have two bathrooms. The distinctive decor is enhanced with splashes of color, kilims, and contemporary art, all reflecting the refined taste of proprietor Annalise Correnti, whose two daughters are gracious and capable hosts.
