Frommer's Review
Chances are good that if a CEO or even a president is bunking down in Palermo, he or she will be sheltered at this government-rated four-star selection. For sheer comfort and convenience, but not for those seeking an accommodation dripping with atmosphere, we consider Astoria Palace the number-two hotel in town, ranked just after the charming but less efficient Villa Igiea. Don't let the word "palace" fool you, however. The name comes from the fact that it's a behemoth, not some classic antique. It is the biggest hotel in town and the setting for many large conventions. It is our sincere hope that you won't be here during one; you'll feel more welcomed and will get better service if you don't have to share the place with hundreds of conventioneers.
The rooms have modern but elegant furnishings, and the bathrooms with tub and shower are kept in state-of-the-art condition. Not all rooms are spacious; some are rather boxlike with just a small window. If you can afford it, go for a junior suite, which will be far bigger and more comfortable. Naturally, the best units are those on the top floor where the view is less obstructed.
Facilities:
2 restaurants; bar; business center; room service; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; Wi-Fi in common areas; valet

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
