When the owners of the popular Lindbergh's Crossing -- formerly in this space -- decided to pack up and sell in early 2007, their own executive chef, Evan Mallett, jumped at the chance to buy it. He cooks exotically spiced comfort food in an intimate, two-story building within a former warehouse. The menu is subtly influenced by Spain and Latin America: You partake of starters that might include quahog chowder, tomato-y octopus with chorizo, bacalao salad, local mussels steamed in porter, or a Moroccan-spiced beetroot soup. Among the entrees, the Black Trumpet burger is fun, incorporating foraged mushrooms and Gouda cheese, as is an ostrich filet served with pine nuts in a Concord grape demiglace. The wine list is strong. If you don't have reservations and they're full, sit in the bar.
