Renaissance Providence ReviewHere's a story: In the late 1920s, the Masons were building a neoclassical temple a couple of blocks west of the State House. The Masons ran out of money and construction suddenly ended, leaving the building an empty shell. There it stood for 78 years, unoccupied, a magnet for graffiti vandals and thieves. But over $100 million has transformed it into this ambitious luxury hotel, a rival to the best the city has to offer. A grand lobby with a fireplace welcomes guests, some of whom choose one of the two executive floors, with their private club lounge. An up-to-the-minute fitness center is up there, too. Only 2 weeks after opening in the summer of 2007, the staff proved to be carefully trained, cheerful, and efficient. Temple, the flashy restaurant-bar downstairs, was an instant hit with locals as well as hotel guests. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
