Frommer's Review
This is an artfully designed compound, which we like almost as much as the Iberostar, which sits immediately next door.Couples seeking privacy at this all-inclusive resort will find it here, but those wanting around-the-clock activities will also be rewarded. Decor inside is stylish and more cutting edge than what you'll find within some other, older resorts, such as the Paradise Beach in neighboring Playa Dorada. A lagoon-shaped swimming pool and a series of three-story pastel-colored buildings radiate outward from an artful, Taíno-inspired central core, all of it set against a backdrop of sandy beach. A tobacco-leaf theme predominates, including replicas of broad leaves inlaid in ceramic tiles, upholstery fabrics, artwork, and even in the handmade iron headboards in the bedrooms. On site is a theater where concerts and meringue shows are presented for up to 750 people at a time.
The bedrooms are midsize to spacious, each well furnished and containing a balcony or ground-floor patio. A tropical decor prevails, with terra-cotta tile floors and sand-colored walls. Bathrooms are beautifully maintained with tub/shower combo. Restaurants are colorful enough, and the food is varied enough, so that you shouldn't become bored with the full-board arrangement. All-you-can-eat dinners, Caribbean seafood, barbecue nights, and both Mexican and Dominican specialties are some of the choices awaiting you.
