Verana Review

Verana is a secluded retreat tucked in the hills overlooking sleepy Yelapa, a natural paradise with spectacular views of the tropical landscape and ocean before it. The adults-only clientele are spread out among eight accommodations ranging from the tranquil two-bedroom "stone house" to the more expensive "tea house" that resembles an enchanted open-air tree house with a private pool. The houses feature king-size beds with mosquito nets, beautiful bathrooms, and private terraces, and while there are no TVs or telephones, Wi-Fi is available. Guests have access to an unforgettable "Jungle Spa," where most of the treatments and programs take place in a tranquil outdoor setting; kayaks; and snorkeling equipment. The European-trained chef prepares exquisite cuisine. Verana is reached via a 30-minute water taxi from Boca de Tomatlán (south of Puerto Vallarta) followed by a 10-minute hike up a fairly steep trail from the boat launch (mules can be arranged for people with mobility difficulties). The town of Yelapa lies about a half-hour walk from the inn.

Facilities:
Restaurant/bar; morning yoga classes; library; outdoor pool; spa w/massage services; snorkeling equipment; kayaks; Wi-Fi

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
