Frommer's Review
Owners Lucy and Gil Givens have assembled an exceptionally entertaining and eclectic collection of Mexican folk art -- about 70% of which is animal-themed. Each summer they travel Mexico and personally select the handmade works created by over 100 indigenous artists and artisans. Items include metal sculptures, Oaxacan wooden animals, retablos (altars), and fine Talavera ceramics. Open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 8pm. The store is closed from May 15 to October 15.
Meet the Author -- If you're shopping at Lucy's CuCu Cabaña, you may find yourself attended to by Lucy's husband, and Vallarta's favorite author, Gil Gevins. Gil's hilarious books include Refried Brains, Puerto Vallarta on 49 Brain Cells a Day, and the follow-up Puerto Vallarta on a Donkey a Day -- laugh-out-loud tales of life in this town, perfect for beach reading. And, natch, they're available for sale at the shop. You couldn't buy a better souvenir.
