Getting There

By Train -- The Regensburg Hauptbahnhof is on major rail lines, including Passau-Regensburg-Nürnberg and Munich-Landshut-Regensburg, with frequent connections in all directions. From Munich, more than 20 trains arrive daily (trip time: 1 1/2 hr.), and from Frankfurt, 18 trains daily (trip time: 3 1/2 hr.). The trip from Nürnberg takes only 1 hour, 15 minutes; from Passau, 1 1/2 hours. For rail information and schedules, call tel. 01805/996633 or visit www.bahn.de.

By Bus -- Regional buses service the nearby towns. For information about routes, scheduling, and prices of buses operating within the region, contact the Regensburger Verkehrsverbund (RVV; tel. 0941/463190; www.rvv.de) for information. For bus runs to such cities as Munich or Nürnberg, service is provided by Watzinger (tel. 0941/784930; www.watzinger.de).

By Car -- Access by car is via the A3 Autobahn from east and west and the A93 from north and south.

Visitor Information

Contact Tourist-Information, Rathausplatz 3 (tel. 0941/5074410; www.tourismus.regensburg.de). Hours are year-round Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 4pm; between November and March, Sunday hours are 9:30am to 2:30pm.

Getting Around

You can walk around the center of Regensburg and see the highlights. To get from the Hauptbahnhof to the town's medieval core (Altstadt), take any of the bright yellow Altstadt buses that line up along Maximilianstrasse, next to the station. One-way fare is 1€. Buses run at 6-minute intervals every Monday to Friday 8:30am to 8:30pm. There's no service on Saturday and Sunday. If you wish to go farther afield, you'll find an adequate system of bus routes fanning out from the railway station to the outer suburbs. A single ride costs 1.90€, and buses run 6am to midnight daily. A 24-hour ticket costs 4€. A list of bus routes is available at the railway station at the Presse & Buch kiosk.
