The town's cultural center, Alte Mälzerei, Galgenberger Strasse 20 (tel. 0941/75738), hosts concerts and theater productions, as well as a run-down bar and beer garden that serves cheap drinks daily 2pm to 1am. The only late-night bar in town, Wunderbar, Keplerstrasse 11 (tel. 0941/53130; bus: Altstadt bus), serves drinks until 3am, 7 nights a week.
Historische Wurstküche, Thundorferstrasse 3 (tel. 0941/466210), celebrated its 853rd birthday in 2008, making it the oldest operating fast-food joint in all of Germany. It's still the best place in town for those delicious Regensburger sausages, which are cooked over beechwood fires in the small kitchen. A total of six of them, served with sauerkraut and fresh bread, costs 7€ ($11). It's located next to the Steinerne Brücke, and tables have a river view. At various times the river has risen to flood the joint. It is open April to October daily from 8am to 7pm, and from November to March only, Sunday 8am to 3pm.
At Scala, Gesandtenstrasse 6 (tel. 0941/52293; bus: Altstadtbus), three bars hem in the dance floor and attract an under-35 crowd. It's open Wednesday to Sunday 11pm to 3am (until 4am Fri-Sat). Admission is 3€ to 5€ ($4.80-$8).
