Permits

Day use of the park requires only the payment of the admission fees. Permits, however, are required for all overnight backcountry trips; backcountry campsites can be reserved beginning on March 1 of each year. There is a $20 administrative fee charged for permits issued from May through October, but there is no charge at other times. Contact the park's Backcountry Office (tel. 970/586-1242).

Advance reservations can be made with the National Park Reservations Service (tel. 800/365-2267; http://reservations.nps.gov) for summer camping at two of the park's campgrounds.
