Baldpate Inn
Pure Colorado and full of quirks, the Baldpate Inn has stood since its 1917 opening under the watchful gaze of the Twin Sisters, aptly named peaks summited by trails right out of the front door. Named after the 1913 mystery novel, “The Seven Keys to Baldpate,” the “key room” here has 20,000 keys hanging from the ceiling and walls, donated by guests over the years. Rooms are a bit creaky and small, as you might expect for a historic hotel, with quilts on the beds, solid wood furnishings and shared or private bathrooms; there are also a quartet of larger cabins here that can accommodate up to six guests. Rooms aside, the location and personality are the biggest draws, and the restaurant is known for its tasty soup-and-salad buffets.
