Bierstadt Lake Trail Frommer's Recommended

Location Access: North side of Bear Lake Rd., 6 1/2 miles from Beaver Meadows
Other 1.4 miles one-way. Moderate

Frommer's Review

This trail climbs 566 feet through an open and sunny forest of quaking aspen -- especially pretty in fall -- to Bierstadt Lake, where you will probably see mallards and other birds. There are boulders along the shore, and several beaches, although there are more stones here than sand. From the northwest side of the lake, you'll have especially fine views of Longs Peak. This trail also connects with several other trails (watch the signs so you don't get lost), including one that leads to Bear Lake. The initial elevation is 8,854 feet.
